1 week late and negative HPT

Well here is my story, i have a 2 year old daughter and have been trying to get pregnant for the past year and about 8 months ago my period became irregular and skipping every other month e.g. may 2 then again july 2. Well i had a period November 2 and have not had one again yet i have had symptoms like when i was pregnant with my daughter like nausea in the morning and tender nipples. I took a HPT on the 2nd and then again today the 9 and both came out negative. Could i be testing too early and should i retest or take the result as it is? Anyone please help Sad

i think i have irregular periods but i dont skip a whole month without having one. its like ill continue to start on the same day for like 3months then it will just skip days like a week later or something, my doctor was gonna give me B.C pills to keep the days regular but im trying to get pregnant so can someone tell me would you concider that a irregular period? or what?
