1st month birth control: period timing and ovulation pain

I started birth control pills (ortho tri-cyclen lo) a little more than five weeks ago. I was very good at taking the pills only missing by a few hours at most. My husband and I had unprotected sex a few times in the past week. (generally we are very good at remembering condoms) Since he and I have been long distance for a few months I decided to delay my period of an extra week. I have been taking my placebo pills for about two nights and although I realize this is very early I am still worried. How long does a period start after pills are taken? I am usually very regular and also i can feel when i ovulate. I have had similar feeling while taking the placebo pills. Is this typical?

any help is very appriciated
