Hi, when you decide to quit drugs effecting nervous system, you will face the problem of seizure. After 3 years of taking this drug your organism is completely relaying on it and suddenly leaving without a drug will cause many undesired actions. So, the best approach is to lower your dose gradually, until you feel that you can completely stop taking it. Learning psychologically approached techniques is very good substitute for a drug. It will be long-lasting process, and requires a lot of energy and will to proceed and accomplish your goal. But, it’s worth the effort, because you will gain new way to control your panic by yourself.

I agree with Scarberry. Lowering the dosage is the best way to be. If you want something less addicting then you should substitute that with Klonopin. Talk to your Doctor though before making any major decisions. If you quit completely you will experience extreme withdrawals from this med. There is a book I forget who it's by, but if you go to the book store around the MD section you will find some books about relaxation techniques to help you with this. I have been seing a therapist for the past month and that has help tremendously. I have no panic attacks, but I still have really bad anxiety. I knock over things and spill drinks every day because of my inability to control my shaking hands. But lower the dosage and your body will get use to that. Replace your XANAX with some self relaxation time. It's awesome.
