Hi, I am 50 years old, and few days ago I was diagnosed with fibroids. I don’t know what are fibroids, and how are they treated. Can you tell me something about it?

Hi, my sister had fibroids, so I know something about them. Those are benign muscular growths that appear in uterus. Fibroids are common-they affect 20% of women over 30. My sister was diagnosed with fibroids when she went to gynecologist because of the heavy bleeding. She was the same age as you, about 50 years old. The surface area of her endometrium was increased, and it caused a heavy bleeding. Fortunately, a hysterectomy wasn’t necessary, so she had a smaller surgery. They removed only the affected area, where fibroid was found. I think this surgery was called endometrial ablation, or something like that.
