Just wondering about the weight gain. Is it a temporary problem or is it ongoing?

Anybody know the answer, and why it's happening in the first place?

WOW! It has been almost 2 years since my ablation. Everything is ok, except I have gained 30 pounds. My stomach looks pregnant, and dieting and working out isnt helping, I swear it's because of my proceedure. I gained 10 pounds very very fast after the ablation. My doctor said it had nothing to do with it, but I don't believe him....Anyone else with weight gain...Come on lets find out what it is and GET IT OFF>>>

I too reported to my dr feeling bloated and retaining water, she denies it has anything to do wtih not bleeding. My periods so far gone. Dr gave me diretics as well which seem to help, and I am watching caffeine which tends to swell me up as well. Dont know why I am retaining more water but it feels awful, like automatic 5 lb weight gain.
Also went back to my old dr who referred me to obgyn who did more blood and urine work, will get results this week. I had to insist on it as again was told the usual story that it is all fluctuation of hormones...PS I am 48 and on no other meds, workout regularly

I was 5 pounds heavier immediately(the next day) after the procedure.I just attributed it to water retention from anesthesia,my face was also swollen the day after.
My abdomen is still bloated a month after the procedure(also had a D&C at the same time) and I've gotten a period with clots, similar to what I experienced before the ablation.
I just found this board(wish I had found it sooner),the little info pamphlet the doc gives you about the procedure makes it sound like such a nice remedy for heavy bleeding.Apparently there's a bit more to it.
I guess I will wait the 6 months, as someone else suggested, before I get disappointed about my results.
The mention of ovum and blood becoming trapped in the now sealed off falopian tubes and causing cramps just thrills me......lol.....no mention of that possibility from the doc.
I decided on this procedure because I absolutely did not want a hysterectomy(I'm 45 years old).My doc was really pushing for the hysterectomy because of my long term issues of heavy bleeding and fibroids. The hysterectomy is of course my next option, according to him.

I would like to exchange info about this topic.Thank you.

I have the same after effects as many other women after this procedure. After 6 months I still have a very heavy discharge similar to a flow. A very watery discharge and I have to wear a pad constantly. And I also experience the tugging that one women reports. My doctor is also not too helpful at this point and acts like he never heard of this before. It seems to me that all the after effects were not reported to me at the time I made the decision to have this surgery. I was only told about how wonderful it is. I, like many other women would appreciate any advise or help that you have found to be helpful.
Arrow Smile I had an ablation done in November of 2006. I am 37years old. I had periods that wouldnt stop. After the procedure everything is back to normal. My only problem is weight gain. I was down to 103 before the surgery now I am up to 113. Right i'm not fat but the weight gain is a little depressing once you get used to not having a tummy and wearing a size 2. I was curious if anyone else had gained weight after having an ablation.

I had an ablation in February of 2006 and weighed 135 pounds, now in 2008 I weigh 155 pound. I have been the same weight for 12 years and 6 mo. after the procedure I began gaining weight also. I do have to say that I have not had a period since the ablation but have had the cramping. It seems to be a common denominator.

I had the Novasure done in July of 07 it's now Jan 08 and I also have the cramping, and my periods at first lasted only a few days but have slowly increased and my last one lasted 10 days with clotting and heavy cramping. I was told that I wouldn't have a period at all afterwards and that if I did it would only last a day or two. I had a tubal ligation done at the same time. I am almost scared to go back to the doctor to hear what he has to say.

I had the procedure in Nov 07. I have gained about 6 lbs. My stomach is bloated looks like I am about 4 months pregnant. I am starting to have trouble buttoning my pants. I am very upset. I have not changed my eating patterns. I am exercising more to try to loose the weight I have gained.

I had the ablation performed in Dec 2005. Prior to that I had a tubal ligation in Dec 1997. I am now 36 and have been period free until today... I also have had EXTREME weight gain. From 145 in 2005 to 199 today. I have tried EVERYTHING possible and have had no luck at all with losing the weight. I have been told by my doctor to eat less and exercise more. I went to the extreme of a strict vegetarian diet and I run 3x a week. If I eat much less, I will be eating nothing. I am so frustrated and depressed. My husband is very supportive but come on, it's not like I am the woman he married. Anyone have any suggestions????

I had a tubal ligation in March of 2002 after my 3rd child. I have always had heavy periods with clots which worsened after my tubal. After more than 5 years of cysts, severe bleeding, constant ultrasounds and changing doctors, I finally had the ablation done. The doctor recommended this instead of a hysterectomy because of my age (31 at the time.) I also had a D&C, hysteroscopy and cystectomy the same day as the ablation. After the ablation, I had about 2 months of the watery discharge and then it finally stopped. I did not have a period for about 3 months, but now they have started again, gradually getting heavier and longer every month. I have experienced the weight gain..almost 10 pounds and nothing will get it off! All that I can live with, however, the excrutiating cramps are what worries me. One or two days out of the month, I feel like I am in labor. The pain is so bad that it makes me want to ball up and just cry. With pain this bad, I should at least have a baby to show for it! I take 5 Midol at a time to ease the pain and sleep with a heating pad. I have been prescribed pain medication but it doesn't relieve it at all. The ablation may sound like it is this "wonder" surgery and it possibly is for a very brief time. However, if you are one of the unfortunate ones that experience the cramping every month afterwards, I know where you are coming from. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I had an endometrial ablation a month ago, a week later I started my period, that was on Feb 1, 2008 today is Feb 18 and it's still going strong. I have horrible odor and cramps all the time. I wish they had just done the hysterectomy and got it over with. I am sick of this. And I have gained weight to go with it.... this thing wasn't as great as thye made it out to be.
