| I had the ablation on Feb 25, 2008 and it was horrible. I was in severe pain during the whloe procedure. It is now time for my period and the cramping is so severe. I also could not walk after the surgery because of nerve damage. I also experience the weight gain and bloating. I did notice an odor after the surgery but she gave me antibiotic just in case i was trying to get an infection. I am so piss off because they did not tell me all of the side effects. I can not function a normal life without the pain in my right leg and pelvic area. Does anyone else have the same problems? |

I had my Novasure done one year ago. My period has returned with some moderate cramping, but the flow is much less (panty liners for a day or two) and the pain is nothing like before.
I'm frustrated by the weight gain. I've probably put on 10 pounds this past year. I eat fairly healthy and am active. I'm sure they'll tell me it's my age (40), blah, blah, blah, but it seems no matter what I do, I can not lose weight. |

| I had my ablasion done in June of 07 for excessive bleeding due to growths in my uterine walls. About 4 days after the surgery, i developed an infection and had an emergency D&C. I was concerned that this would decrease the effectiveness of the ablasion but, it did not. My only concern is the weight gain. I spent a great deal of time recovering but, oddly enough, i gained weight rapidly. before the holidays arrived, i had gained 18 pounds. I have never had an issue controlling my weight and i'm a pretty small woman but, even dieting isnt helping. This has been very upsetting and frustrating. I have also noticed an increase in my pmdd symptoms since the surgery. Excessive breast tenderness during pms, more moodyness and irratability. I saw my GYN last week and she seemed to dismiss the weight gain and told me to increase my calcium and magnesium for the breast tenderness ???? I dont regret having the ablation but, i would have thought more about it had i known i would have gained the weight i have so far ! |

Posted: 03/05/08 - 19:10 Post subject: Weight Gain After Endometrial Ablation |
|
|
After reading several of the posts on this blog, I am more depressed than ever! I had the endometrial ablation and a D and C in February 2007 for heavy bleeding and now my periods are faint to nonexistent. That part is swell. However, like so many women on this blog, my weight has escalated to the point that I wish I had never heard of this stupid procedure. I'd rather bleed 22 days a month than to be this fat.
Up until this procedure, I ate the exact same way for 39 years. Sure, my weight would fluxuate a pound or two around a period cycle, or during the holidays or whatever and, sure, it took a bit to get back to "normal" after each of my three babies. But, after this procedure, I did not change my eating habits or exercise routine in the least, and the weight started to pile on -- to the point of 20 pounds. So, not knowing what the heck was going on, I stepped it up a bit: I've given up coca-colas and switched to unsweetened tea, bought a treadmill, watch fat and caloric intake -- short of lipo, if you name it, I've tried it. And, no matter what I do, the weight is still packed on, my clothes do not fit and I look like a hog.
After carefully reviewing anything and everything that has happened to my body or in my life over the past year -- stress, mental health state, meds, illness, major life changes, everything -- the ABSOLUTE ONLY DIFFERENT FACTOR was having this procedure. This led me to do an Internet search and -- viola -- I find several women going through the same thing as me.
I have not mentioned this to my MD, but plan to....not sure what good it will do; my doc typically seems to be harnessed by what has been "blessed" in the clinical literature....
If ANYONE out there has found ANYTHING that helps to get the body chemistry/rhythm back to normal and to get this weight off, PLEASE RESPOND!! I'm sure I speak for many women when I say that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! |

I had the procedure done in December 2006 along with having my tubes cut. I used to have heavy flow periods, severe cramps and migraine headaches and was on oral birth control (tried them all). Now I have no period, EVER, love it, but still have severe cramping, sometimes enough to floor me. My doc said, its a cyst poping. But every other month? Sometimes two to three months in a row. My doctor prescribed me pain pills and to take ibuprofen when it happens. Fine, it works, but I dont want to have to take a PAIN pill every time this happens. A HUGE bonus is that I dont have nearly as many migraines anymore from not being on birth control. But I have put on about 10 pounds. I am trying to lose it, but have just begun trying.
All in all, I am very satisfied with the procedure! NO period, MINIMAL Migraines and no more birth control! Cramping and small weight gain stinks, but it is much better than before. |

Hi, everyone. After reading all of these posts about problems after a Novasure ablation, I thought it would be good to write about my different experience. For about 6 months after my procedure, I thought that I'd made a very bad mistake, as I was experiencing pretty much the same copious amounts of blood flow as before, worse cramping, bloating, etc. It was so bad that I even ended up going to the emergency room at one point, since my flow was so heavy and never-ending that it seemed I might bleed to death.
But here's the good part: Right about at 8 months in, my heavy periods started to taper off after 2 days, then the cramping did as well, until at about 10 months, I actually had to use only a pantyliner for the entire 4-day period and there was far less cramping than before! My life is so much better now that I am not worried about bleeding through my clothese and furniture anymore. I know that this good news won't apply to some of you, but maybe it will to others. Hang in there! It may get better for you if you give it more time. Maybe my age was a factor, too, not sure. I had it done when I was 43 and I'm now 45. Good luck to you all in getting some relief from your symptoms! |

I am 37 and a mother of 4, 5' 6" and 120 lbs. I eat right and exercise. I Had Novasure (endometrial ablation) in Feb. of 2008 due to very heavy periods. Had brownish "weeping" all month until I began a normal period four weeks after procedure. I have been more bloated since the surgery and my pants are a little tighter in the tummy. I am beginning to have surgery remorse, especially after reading all of these posts! Trying to be optimistic, and I would love to hear some positive stories. Please tell me it gets better |

Hello all, I had the ablation in Nov 07. My periods have stopped but I have gained weight and felt "heavy" in the abdomen. Also, I seem to be developing PMDD symptoms. I've been irritable before periods before, but I recently experienced rage for the entire week before my period was expected. Anyone else experience anything like this? I'm 45.

| I am really glad I found this forum. I am scheduled to have the Novasure procedure done this week & now I am having 2nd thoughts. Doctor said I was a good candidate for this procedure because of heavy periods & severe cramping; also had tubal ligation done in 1995, but now I'm not so sure. |
