| I had my ablation done two years ago and had minimal bleeding afterwards. More like a watery discharge. My periods came back just a little which I can live with but just last week while I was working in the house I doubled over with the worst labor pain like cramps that I have ever had without actually giving birth. I was in so much pain all I could do was sort of stand and moan. I started sweating and the nausea was horrible. I have a Dr. app. for the 2nd of May so I can find out what the heck is going on. I'm so surprised to read about so many women having the extreme cramping and weight gain. I too have that issue but I also have hypothyroidism. I'm considering just getting it all taken out then I don't have to worry about the pain any more. |

| I am 36 yrs. old and had novasure ablation four months ago. I am very distressed about my weight gain after the ablation. I have never had a weight issue, always being on the thin side. However, I started gaining weight within two months after the ablation. I wasn't eating any differently than before so I cut back the sweets and began exercising more. Two months later I am still gaining, only five or six pounds but given the fact that I've reduced my calories and upped my exercise, this shouldn't happen. I seem to be gaining in all the female hormonal ways: bloating in stomach and thighs-ugh!! I started researching weight gain after ablation and am just sick to see that it is relatively common. I desperately wish I would have know this before opting to have the procedure. I still have periods lasting 7 days although they are much much lighter. I am wondering how long the trend of gaining 3-4 pounds a month will continue. I am terrified!!! |

| I had a uterine ablation in January of 2007, and a tubal in 1992. For the first year after the ablation I had only heavy spotting, but I went from my typical 108 - 112 to 126. I eat well, and exercise daily with little result in a weight drop.I have not weighed this amount since I was five months pregnant. My children are now in their twenties. I also noticed a very heavy tummy pouch that appeared soon after and won't drop. This February (2008) I began having a heavy flow, much bloating as well as excruciating cramping that is more frequent and longer lasting. I have been told I am fine too. By fluke today I typed in ablation. It is good to know I am not just being a wenie but other women who have had an ablation are experiencing the same thing. It was supposed to help but has made life feel like one constant labor pain. |

| I know there are some ladies looking for a positive ablation story...sorry, it isn't mine. Ditto to most of the other stories about the weight gain, water retention but most importantly, I thought the first 7 months (ablation 9/2007) were awesome. I am now experiencing heavier bleeding than before, horrific cramps, a yuck odor and I truly feel as if everything is backing up waiting to explode. And it usually does....most unexpectedly. I am now scheduled for a hysterectomoy and would highly recommend the hystersister.com website as well as hormonewell.com. I wish I had researched as much prior to the ablation! |

| Had the ablation 5/10/08 , the one where they use boiling water from a wand, no balloon, not sure what it is called. The Doc said it was safer than any of the other procedures out there. I had 10 mg Valium and 5 mg percocet by mouth, a patch of scopolomine for nausea behind my ear and a torodol injection. My Doc had to stop the procedure when he was only 40% finished due to I was in EXCRUCIATING pain. He said it was not that common and I probably just had more heat receptors in my uterus than normal. In the past two weeks I have been bloated and gained 5 lbs. I am discouraged at finding this blog and realizing that I was not counseled on any of these side effects. Did anyone else have this level of pain with the procedure. My Doc said to wait 3 or 4 months then repeat the procedure under sedation in the hospital as one would for a D&C. Not so sure about that now. |

| I had my ablation in 10/07 I continue to get a watery discharge with odor and this month I have had a very strange period. The cramping has been bad from the beginning but this month I could not bend over and pick up my daughter without severe pain. My pain started running done my leg. I have also gained weight. I want to know why I never found weight gain and intense cramping as a possible side effect. Has anyone found a way to help with the cramps beside a hysto? |

Hi,
I had an endometrial resection Jan/08. I had non-stop heavy bleeding starting Sept 08. Apparently my procedure didn't work either as I have not stopped bleeding. If you count the starting of it all in Sept I am now at about 10 months! Has anybody had the procedure done twice? Is it time for a hysterectomy? I am totally done with the bleeding. I also feel that I have gained weight, especially in the tummy area.
I feel that I should just get rid of it all since I'm done having kids. (45 yrs old) |

I have had only one minimal period since, if you can call it that. I still have my PMS symptoms..unfortunate for my family! lol But I would recommend this for anyone with terrible heavy periods! I was unable to have a normal life 7 days a month, and now if I need a light day liner once or twice every two or three months, that is it! |

|
|
I am 53 with a soon-to-be-3 year old
(He was not in vitro; was a surprise!). Diagnosesd with probable endometriosis after an endometiral biopsy and standard pelvic. New trendy thing is for doctors to let their patients decide procedures, so I elected an endometrial ablation (I haven't been to medical school, so how am I to decide which is better? Any decision I make would be emotional...which it was. Even tried the what would you suggest if I were your mother approach but no dice. By the way, I come from a family of docs and have an advanced professional degree).
I think I made the wrong election, based on her not confirming a particular diagnosis - or telling me, if this diagnosis, this procedure will fix. But if this diagnosis, then this proceure will not work. Additionally was provided with incorrect information. She never actually confirmed a diagnosis, other than to treat the symptom which was continued bleeding 3 week long and a "bulky uterus". The endometrial biopsy ruled out cancer, so that was a non-issue.
I was told to expect light discharge and spotting, both afterwards and in lieu of normal period. Was told I would have light period if any. I had the watery discharge and spotting intitially which cleared. Three weeks later, had spotting. Then had full blown period as if I never had my lining removed (and I have always had heavy periods; this was no different). After reading, thought I may have adenomyosis - which would explain the bleeding. Saw my OB-GYN. She assured me that the Novasure procedure was a success. Then told me that I was 2nd patient to report bleeding of this type aftter procedure. She wouldn't admit possibility of another diagnosis but said to come back in 3 months if I had any more problems (ie, didn't pervceive the bleeding as problematic, without more). She didn't do a pelvic to see if my uterus was still bulky/enlarged. Her nurse practitioner advised that at least I wasn't bleeding all of the time (a three week long period and low blood count is what prompted the initial trip to the OB-GYN in the first place).
I am not perturnbed if the diagnosis was wrong. I am annoyed at the "cirling of the wagons" response. I am a bit annoyed with myself, but would have likely come to the point where I would have elected the hysterectomy had I more time to think about it (but I felt awful from all the bleeding and blood loss and fatigue and wasnted to fell better. ANd I dont' care what the literature says, ladies, having a hysterectomy is an emotionally fraughte decision; rules out the "what if").
I am not suggesting that the Novasure procedure wasn't successful and didn't get the endometrium. I am suggesting that it hasn't resolved the problem which is continued heavy bleeding (though now at least not chronic) and lower back and pelvic pain. I think she should have sat me down and suggested a hysterectomy - I am near menopause, probably in perimenopause, not planning to have more children and this would have covered any diagnosis, not simply endometriosis. It would have accelerated mennopause a little. It would completely avooid later sugery for ovarian or cervical cancer and reduced risk of breast cancer. What's not to like?
This is not my regular OB-GYN. My solution will be to wait as instructed - and to look for another GYN as I wait. |
