WELL, IT HAPPENED. IT WAS AT MOTHER IN LAWS HOUSE A FEW DAYS AGO. SHE WAS CHANGING MY 2 YR OLD'S DIAPER, LEFT THE ROOM (DURATION OF ABSENCE UNKNOWN) WHILE HE WAS NAKED, AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK IN MY OTHER SON ( WAS TOUCHING HIS PENIS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 2 YR OLD WAS TELLING HIM TO STOP. MY 8 YR OLD IMMEDIATELY WENT AND HID HIS FACE AS IF HE KNEW HE WAS DOING SOMETHING HE SHOULDNT. A COUPLE YEARS AGO MY 8 YR OLD WAS SPOKEN TO ABOUT TOUCHING A FRIEND OF HIS IN AN ANAPPROPRIATE MANNER. HE WAS GIVEN CLEAR EXPECTATIONS ABOUT WHAT IS AND IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. I AM SURE THAT HE KNEW HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DOING THAT, BECAUSE HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT IN FRONT OF ME OR MY WIFE, OR EVEN HIS GRANDMOTHER. WAS MY 2 YR OLD SEXUALLY ABUSED? IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY 8 YR OLD? DID THE DEVIL HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS HAPPENING? DOES MY SON NEED TO SEE A COUNSELOR? ARE THE TWO INSTANCES WITH MY 8 YR OLD RELATED? IS IT MY FAULT FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME? I AM LOOKING FOR QUALIFIED INPUT ON THIS MATTER. PLEASE HELP ME HAVE SOME CLARITY HERE SO I CAN DO THE RIGHT THING. THANK YOU. |

Okay, your son is displaying signs of sexual abuse, yes. Is that the only sign? Other signs are:
Seductive behavior
Fear of undressing in front of others
Extra aggression or extra compliance
Fear of a particular person or family member
You could bring your son to counseling. That might help. Ask a mental health professional what the best options are.
Your son is also young. Many children, before they hit puberty, express interest or curiosity in areas of sexuality. Your son may just have been curious. I would quietly and compassionately sit down with him and ask him what's going on. If he gets shy, difficult, cries--especially if he shows signs of shame--I'd ask a health professional.
Also, don't think that this is your fault or you had anything to do with it. Blaming yourself is not going to help you or your son through what could be a very difficult time. I was sexually abused by a very "trusted" individual and the strength of my mother helped me through it. It's okay; it's not your fault. Cling to your wife and, if necessary, see a counselor yourself. |
