Because Albuteral has a stimulatory effect, some people may use it in order to lose weight.
I am not saying this is what mom does, but people have been known to over induldge their medication. In some cases, people have been known to over use their inhaler without even realizing it because their asthma symptoms are getting worse and the patient just wants to be able to breath better. Hence the weight loss.
Try to make sure mom uses her inhaler according to the prescription. I have Albuteral myself. The directions and the Dr. tell me to take 2 puffs twice a day. I take 1 puff twice a day and i feel fine. I find that 2 puffs at a time make me lightheaded and dizzy for a few minutes.
There are some other side affects like high blood pressure and increased heart rate which could lead to more serious problems.
