HI. I’m 42 years old male. Year ago my doctors diagnosed me with prostate cancer. We tried several therapies - I’ve recently had abalation therapy which, by the way, went just fine. I have two kids, sun and a daughter. Since radioiodine was used in this treatment, I’m concerned for the health of my family. I am aware that radioiodine treatment uses a form of iodine that is radioactive so I’m afraid that I’m “radioactive” and I’m afraid that I would irradiate my family. Is that the case and are there any measures that I can take to prevent this from happening??? Thanks for all tips!!!

You think well my friend. Unfortunately, you will be somewhat “radioactive” for some period of time. Therefore, if you want to protect your family from possible irradiation you should take some measures. First of all, you have to make arrangements to sleep apart from your partner for that period of time. Also, first few days you should limit contact with pregnant women and younger children. You should also avoid close or prolonged contact with adults. If your kids are still young (you haven’t mentioned their age) it would be really a good idea if you could arrange for your children not to stay with you. Maybe you could arrange them to stay with your relatives or friends at least for the first three days after your treatment. Also, until the doctor informs you that you are not “radioactive” any more do not let children sleep beside you. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!
