Hi, I suffer from anxiety, so I read about it a lot. I think that HPA axis is the cause of that, and that my HPA function is abnormal. This is just a theory, and I could really use some more information about HPA function.

Hi, the HPA axis is closely connected to mood disorders, such as anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, chronic fatigue syndrome and burnout. Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is released from the hypothalamus, and this is influenced by blood levels of cortisol, by stress and by the sleep/wake cycle. Anxiety can appear when the sleep/wake cycle is not in order. After wakening, cortisol should rise rapidly, and then fall gradually over the day, rising again in late afternoon. It should fall again in the evening. If this cycle is not functioning right, it could affect a person’s mood. Why don’t you ask your doctor about the cause of your anxiety? Maybe HPA axis isn’t the problem at all.
