I was reading over these posts and just had to say something. I am appalled at how easily it is for people to say that it is self indulgent and selfish for a person who is overweight to want to lose. If you have ever been overweight you would understand how emotionally crippling it can be. I hate when people say eat right and exercise...that's the right way to do it. Please! I eat right and I exercise 45 minutes every single day. My colesterol is 126 and my good cholesterol is high and the bad is low. I am the picture of health...yet I am 60lbs overweight. I try very hard to lose weight. And don't tell me I should be glad to be healthy...your health is important but so is how you feel about yourself and your appearance. The other day my little boy who is only 6 years old was on the play ground when some other kids started saying his mother (me) was fat. He was obviously upset about something but didn't want to tell me because he thought it would hurt my feelings. How it broke my heart to think he had to carry that around with him. If there were a miracle drug for weight loss I'd take it in an instant...side effects and all. So those of you who pull your little self riteouse act be glad you have your holyer than thou attitudes, house keepers and thin bodies to keep you happy. I'm sure you all sleep better!

I do not have ADD or ADHD, but I take 70ml of adderall a day for weight loss. It's a miracle drug.

I take Adderall and Lexapro daily. I have gained weight in the last year since starting the Adderall. I don't know which one has increased my appetite but the benefits of both meds far outweigh the weight I've gained. Has anyone else had this same problem? I have considered going off the meds to lose weight but functioning daily is my priority no matter how unhappy I am with my weight.

This is outrageous! I have ADHD and am dyslexic. I take adderal on regular basis. If it wasn't for adderal I could not have passed the CPA exam.

People who take this medicine for vain purposes make our lives more difficult (those of us who need the medicine). Every month I have to get my prescription by picking it up myself or sending my housekeeper. it is obtained by a triplicate. If I am out of my medicine and go to a different neurologist than my own, the doctor will not prescribe adderal to me unless if he gets my file/diagnosis from UCLA. The potential for this medicine to be abused makes our lives more difficult.

Just a minor correction, ADHD is not a mental disorder. It is a neurological disorder. I score very high on any IQ test that I take.

How were you planning on getting this medicine?

Remember, all the outside appearances do not have any true added value to your psyche. Most people nowadays have lost their soul. Like you people have confused the inner beauty of the person and the outside appearances. We suffer from functional narcissism which serves the self, rather than others. So, instead of making life’s decisions according to personal responsibility, we make decisions according to personal convenience. Anything today seems to be acceptable if it makes life look easier. Hope one day you realize that there’s more to see in life than outside appearances.

I advise you to Read The Dalai Lama's "Art of Happiness". It will give you insight to look into yourself and re evaluate your priorities.

Good Luck

No offense, but it sounds like you may be abusing the medication, or at a minimum, using adderall as a performance enhancer. You cite your performance on the CPA exam as a proof of some sort? And it sounds like you've tried to circumvent the law by sending a third party to obtain adderall on your behalf. It also sounds like you've tried to go to a different doctor on your own. If you're running out of your medication within the time allotted, then there is a problem. You are likely over consuming the allotted amount per day to prolong its effects, or to state it another way, to maintain your high. Adderall is an amphetamine, the only difference is that Adderall is supposed to have diminishing effects based on the amount you take, which means the more adderall you take, the less it works. This is why adderall is purportedly non-addictive, and what make adderall different from other amphetamines. If the monthly allotment isn't enough, then you really need to go and see your doctor to find out why.

I take adderall for ADD and am appalled that people are trying to get this drug simply for weight loss. Instead of looking to take the easy way out by taking a pill to lose weight, why don't you try diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle? If you cannot stand to be overweight, why did you not do something when you first started gaining weight?

I work very hard to stay fit, it is not easy but it is a lifestyle choice that I have chosen for myself ever since I can remember.

Good luck losing the weight (hopefully drug free).

The poster that was considering using Adderall for weight loss may be disappointed with the outcome. I too am 70 lbs overweight and have ADD and major depressive disorder in remission. I've been on Adderall for over 10 years and it has never caused me to loose weight. I REALLY WISH IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO LOOSE THIS WEIGHT.

Actually, I would say that in the last decade, I've increased in weight by at least 10 pounds. Perhaps you have to take a really high dose for it to be effective in weight loss? I don't know, but I only use it as prescribed by my doctor at 30 mg. a day, and my appetite is the same.

Perhaps you could go to a weight loss clinic? This is what I'm going to do.

Hey. I was on Phetermine for 3 months a lost 40 pounds. It was amazing. But You got to be careful when getting off of it. You can gain it all back twice as fast as losing it. I did....so I returned to my doc and told her that i wanted it again and that i did not take her seriously about gaining the wrght back. So I am on it again. It is a great drug.....look it up and ask your doc about it. I had no side effects what so ever. But it to, can be hihly habit forming after six months. I was surprised my doc gave it to me gain, as she told me she would do no more than 2 months. But I dont have a habit forming personality and had no prob getting off of it. So.....she did. I would reccomend Phentermine. Defintley.

HELP! I am a parent of a 17 year old who has been taking adderall for about 2 months. I have had trouble with him for many years; compulsive, steeling, made bomb and blew up the 2 pop machines, stole $250 from my AMT and denied it, counterfitting money and trying to pass it off to friends at school, 104 mile speeding ticket, and now the doc finally decided to try this med.
He is acting hyper, staying up all night to do homework because he doesn't use his time wisely, and started smoking cigerates but he really likes the med. for helping him concentrate in school.
We have mental disorders in our family, I have self diagnosed myself with dyslexia and probably something else?maybe mild bi polar or depression, but my brother committed suicide a year ago and had several problems...related to drugs, (pot, meth,?) we think he was bi pollar which my son might have mildly. My brother probably had OCD and who knows with all the problems he had. My dad was an acoholic for many years, so we do have addiction disorders.
My concern is that my son is very resentful about my taking away the drug and I think he is already addicted...we have that problem in the family also. He is very compulsive and destructive at times. I remember he was always trying to take those energy pills when he was wrestling and always lazy or unmotivated so he likes the upper feeling. Yuck! It's hard knowing what to do but he has been way hyper and I don't think this med. is the right fix. Any ideas? Thanks! Question

Why did you take him off this drug then? At least he's no longer getting into trouble like you had previously mentioned. I wouldn't like it if my son smoked, of course, but kids are going to smoke regardless what you do. Sorry, but adderall does not make one smoke. He chose that path. If my son stayed up all night to do homework, I'd be pretty darn proud. He could be doing worse things you know.

Are you sure it's because he's addicted or is that what you think? You ought to actually talk to him. He may be resentful because the drug may have worked for him and you take it away. How disappointing. Additionally, you can't just take someone off of adderall. That is a very bad thing to do! It has to weaned so you can switch to a different drug. I'm not trying to start drama, but you are doing your son a terrible injustice for taking away something that made him "stay up all night doing homework". At least he's not putting bombs in soda machines now is he?

*rolls eyes*

I take it for both ADD and weight loss. I also have a compulsive eating disorder, and I can say with all sincerity that it is the first thing I have ever used in my life that has helped me reduce my weight and keep it off. Over the years I ballooned to over 425lbs and have lost about 65lbs since I've been on Adderall.

According to my doctor who uses Adderall for some of his other obese and morbidly obese patients, it's usually a last resort before they have to consider bariatric surgery. It doesn't have the same effect for everyone and if you in any way have an addictive personality you shouldn't bother with it.

Anyway, if someone is having major issues with weight loss they may want to consider consulting a doctor that specialises in bariatrics. After 25 years of hell on Earth trying to get help from "regular" doctors I finally found a doctor that sincerely tries to help the overweight/obese instead of just passing judgment and getting us to waste time on yet another carbon copy diet plan.
