A survey that was done about alcohol addiction and teenagers included 43,000 adults. Data from the survey reveal shocking facts about teenage binge drinking and alcohol dependence later in life. The numbers of youngsters drinking are worrying especially because new studies on alcohol reveal how damaging alcohol is on the developing brains of teenagers. The influence is larger than once thought.

A person who starts drinking before the age of 14 is more likely to develop independence later in life but are also more likely to become dependant more quickly and at younger age. The study revealed that half of the teenagers who started drinking before 14 will rely on alcohol at least at one point of their lives. On the other hand, only 9% of those began drinking at the age of 21 would reach for a bottle later.

Researchers warn that each additional year earlier than 21 that a child began to drink, the bigger chances of dependence one day.

One of the main reasons, the researchers are so worried is because it has been found that binging on alcohol could damage those brain parts that are responsible for learning and memory and seriously impair cognitive functions in teenagers on the long run.

The information was not available a few years ago. The more worrisome fact is that the numbers of binge-drinkers are increasing and that that the alcohol is taking more and more lives each year.
