Scientists have come to the definite conclusion: second hand smoking definitely kills and is not just an annoyance. Second-hand smoke poses threat to health, possibly leading to disease, and even premature death in children and nonsmoking adults.

The biggest problem is that non-smokers cannot be protected even with separate smoking areas. This imposes a need for a ban for smoking at work places.

Statistics from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 3,000 second hand smokers die from lung cancer, 46,000 from heart disease and 430 newborns from sudden infant death syndrome each year in the US.

It is indeed an alarming fact.

Children are being infected by the parents smoking as smoke slows the lung development and it has been shown that every exposure to smoke is harming.

There is a need to protect the non-smokers in the public and work places, as well as in their homes. Many Governments are working on the new laws that would help reduce tobacco smoke exposure.
