Hi, I have been suffering from ulcerative colitis four years now. All attacks I had were mild and there are no complications. With the last episode, my testicles swelled and I have been taking Azulfidine then. I guess I would like to know if I might be allergic to that drug and should I perhaps stop with the therapy?
Azulfidine is a drug used to deal with ulcerative colitis, Chrons disease and proctocolitis. It has anti inflammatory effect on the auto immune inflammation process. Its basic mechanism is inhibitions of production of inflammation mediators. Allergic reactions are possible and those include swelling of parts that have connective tissue (testicles including). I guess this does mean you should change the therapy.
