|
|
Folks:
My lip reduction surgery, on both upper and lower lips, was done last Thursday. And, so far, touch-wood, it has been great. I feel great. People do not look at me strange. Correction, they look at me a bit less strange. He still has to do a 1/4 more lip surgery later.
There was swelling a couple of days. But, the Dr. gave me good advice. Stay away from herbs, gingko buloba, spices etc. No exercises. No sex with my girl-friend. She wasn't the happiest person but, hey, we got get my recovery in first.
I did do as he told me. And, within 10 days my lips are normal. I have to have more surgery done in Feb or March after a 3 month checkup. But, so far so good.
Cost : $2,700 plus $800 for general Anesthesia.
Let's hope my lips stay good. |

Hello everyone,
I also have had lip reduction on my lower lip a few years ago and I have a very strange thing going on.
On some days it looks absolutely perfect, smooth surface, no assymetry at all. On other days it looks awful, my surgeon did make some errors on the right side of my lip which can look bumpy, but you don't see it everyday! It drives me nuts...and makes me insecure. When I wake up I think...let's hope it looks good today.
Before I had surgery I must say that the size of my lower lip varied from small to larger, maybe a bit like oedema but I'm not sure. Before the surgery some people sometimes said to me: your lip appears to be larger.
I read the posts on this site a lot and what I wanted to ask is what should you do with my problem? Is it wise to let the 'ugly' side fill up with some natural looking filler? I don't want anymore cutting in my lip because healing took me over 1,5 years. |

I am a black African male with a big complex about the size of my upper lip. My upper lip is not that big; it's just slightly out of balance with the rest of my face. I've experimented a million times holding my upper lip slightly 'in', in front of the mirror; & have noticed the slight reduction, completely transforms my face. I become attractive
My fat upper lip has made me extremely socially phobic. It completely messes up what would have been an attractive face. It looks weird when i talk & even worse when i smile. Normally the upper lip tends to be smaller than the bottom lip - mine is the reverse. It's also the same fat- length in diameter; resulting in a 'fat' lip look. I've seen numerous surgeons & booked a date. All it remains is to make payment. But i'm scared . I only want a small reduction as to much off would make me look too weird! What about permanent numbness? How long does the lip stay numb? What are all the potential problems? I plan to return to work in just over a week. How do i handle curious work colleagues? Great blog! |

I had this surgery two years ago this June but I also have a problem. Some of the stitches have not dissolved!! Primarily, the "base line" stitches from which the loop/knots were made. The problem that I am encountering is that at times, this causes my lips to become really tight and when I smile, I feel as if I am tearing at my lips.
Anyone else experience this? |

Is this blog still functioning? Not many responses To guest - could you please tell me about your experience/s ie the reason for doing the procedure.
Could you also expand - what were your experiences post surgery?(Days, weeks etc). Was the swelling and the pain excruciating? When did it subside? Return to 'normal'- at least on the 'outside'. I know on the inside it takes a while longer to settle. Do your lips feel 'weird' - as if it is 'empty'.
Are you happy with the result? Or are you grateful it wasn't a complete catastrophe. From some of the other postings, it seems that the surgery often creates other problems I really want my upper lip reduced. But would i seriously regret it, if i proceed? Has anyone seriously regretted it?
The only comfort is that people have said on here, that they didn't see much difference; or that the difference is not so radical to make you look weird. The other point i ought to mention - do the results look natural after the 3 month period? I hate to be working around looking as if i'm unnaturally holding my upper lip in Also to guest, are you African/Afo American/carribean. Thanks |

You really are the best...thanks so much for answering to all of my questions, and even including a pic. To be honest with you, I thought u were african american since most of us are the ones with the full lips. But it did turn out great, I would have never guessed that you had a reduction, it is so natural looking. U go girl!...How were ur lips b4 then? Did you do both or just the bottom lip? Do you have a b4 pic too? so i can see the difference. I'm thinking of just doing the bottom only (it's a little droopy looking) When did you finally see the results cuz i know you posted previously that u did not see the results right away, was it after a month or more? And when did you go back to work or school? aka (how long did u hide for?)
Get back whenever time allows you. Thanks a bunch!!
ps. i would give you many of my votes but since i'm still new and only have 8 posts, i can't. I will after I get my 20 as required. |

|
|
Hello guys,
Well it is 7 months after the surgery and it looks the same. My bottom lip is still droopy so I am going back to the surgeon in two weeks to have it redone! Hopefully it will extremely be reduced to the point THAT I WANT IT. I will keep you informed on the second surgery. To the forum participants, don't give up. If your physical appearance is limiting your confidence and/or social progression in life get it done. Do not pay attention to what anyone says. It is only flesh, flesh can be altered it's your heart and spirit that holds the greatest weight.
Love you guys take care! |

Hey all, I'm a 17 year old Asian male from Covina California. Ever since I was little I've had big lips, even in my photos when I was 1 I had bigger lips then my brothers when they were 5-6. My lips hang when they are a relaxing state. I never noticed them throughout my elementary years because they looked natural and I was content with that. But as soon as puberty hit, my lips started widening and getting really really thick. Up until about eight grade I started seeing myself in the mirror and thinking, wow I'm ugly. So I started tucking them in, everyday to make the appear thinner. Everything was going fine and I started becoming more confident with myself. I got a girlfriend that lasted about a year, but every time I smiled she'd tell me I kind of look like a clown.
Now I'm a Junior in high school and I still, to this day, tuck my lips in
everyday and look in the mirror. I have a great life with many many friends and lots of excitement. But the thing is I'm tired of having to tuck my lips in and look awkward. I just want to me normal. My friends don't tease me or anything, but sometimes when I'm concentrating really hard I don't tuck my lips in and my friends, kiddingly say that I'm ugly. I know they don't mean it, because they are my best friends, but why else would they say it? It's bothered me for about 4 years but never said anything to anyone until last night.
This has been bringing down my self esteem so much, some days I just feel like giving up. I look at my friends and all of them are completely normal looking with small, relaxed lips. I envy them because I have to suck and tuck them in. For 4 years I have done this, so you could imagine how much stress I build up.
I broke down in front of my friends at a BBQ, and had to have my mom pick me up. No one knew why I was so upset till I finally brought up the nerve to tell my mom. It took me 4 years to say something. I have never asked anything much from my parents or brothers, but in the financial state we are in, it's almost impossible for me to do anything about my unhappiness. My mom is depressed and unemployed, and my dad is also unemployed, and currently looking for a job.
All I want is to spend my senior year not having to worry about what people think of me, not worrying about looking ugly in pictures, not worrying about the keeping a controlled face, so other people won't notice.
I just want to spend my senior year taking photos, and smiling in all of them and acting natural.
The only hope right now is to either get a job or ask my biggest brother to pay for the operation.
But the thing is both my lips are about 3/4 to an inch thick, so I'm guessing it'll be around 3-4k.
I need some advice... |

I just got the lip reduction surgery and i am very happy with the results after two weeks. But the Doctor also said that it will take at least 6 months to see 100% of the results. |
