Are people with cognitive disabilities nicer than normal people?

I have seen in movies that people with cognitive disabilities are nicer than normal people because they act in a child-like manner and usually win our hearts. Does this mean that they cannot act on impulse when threatened by someone or find themselves in dangerous situation? If not so, how can they learn to do so?

It is a common misconception reinforced by movie industry for the purpose of the storytelling. It is true that people diagnosed with some form of CD are emotionally more open to others and thus more vulnerable but they also react to the emotions other people express sometimes in “socially unacceptable” manner.
