Are rib fractures painful?

Hi, guys. My little brother plays football and he was injured yesterday. He got some rib fractures. I am not sure which ribs are involved. I was wondering whether these rib fractures are painful. What would you know about this? I will appreciate all your replies. Thanks for all your replies.

Hello to you too. I don’t believe he has broken the first rib. It is rarely fractured because it is protected by clavicle or collarbone. The middle ribs are mostly injured. Rib fractures are considered as minor injuries, but they can be very painful. Usually, the pain appears when breathing or moving. Rib fractures are common for athletes. Your brother should be more careful in the future. I hope everything will be all right. Good luck!
