Are there some special genes involved in autism?

Hello! My cousin has a child with autism. It is the only child with autistic disorder in our family. I got married last year and I plan to have a baby. I am concerned if autism is hereditary disorder. I couldn’t live with an autistic child. Are there some special genes involved in autism?

Hello! Autism seems to be related to abnormalities in several regions of the brain and there are several genes that have been identified to be connected with autism. Families with one autistic child have 20% chance of having a second child with the disorder. Sometimes relatives of autistic children show mild impairments in social and communication skills as well.
