Athlete's foot; Help me out!

So I have athlete's foot. I'v had it about 2 months now, and about a week ago I started using a cream with tolnaftate in it. The balls of my feet seem to be doing better, but the area between my toes seems to show little or no improvement. This morning I woke up to see the area between my 4th and 5th toe on my right foot, all red and irritated. The night before it looked fine, and this morning it looks like the entire space is now a fissure. Its really irritating, and I have to work today...

Is there anything I can do to help keep the skin from splitting, or anything I can do to remove the dead skin?
