Baby shaking head

My 2 month old is shaking his head (like saying 'no') vigorously and I'm worried, not only whether he's having ear infection, but also whether it will actually affect his brain or suffer from any concussion. Given that a 2 month old skull is still pretty soft, I really worry that it has adverse effect to his brain development. Anyone able to advice? Thanks.

My one year old has done this for a couple of months and it seems like he's happy and playful. He likes to do it when he's eating to. he'll smile and shake his head "no!" I don't think it's anything to worry about I think it's just their way of communicating and just something silly to do for the sake of doing it.

My son is 7 mo old and has been shaking his head as described in other posts for about a week, he does it a few times a day. It scares me and I have tried to research any and all causes but it seems to be a "touchy subject" among moms and cannot find much about this.
He does it most often when he has a hat or hood on that he'd like to remove. But just recently I noticed that he even did it on his changing table for no apparent reason. What is this?

My son who will be 8 months old next week started shaking his head as if he is saing NO today in daycare. It scared me to death and I took him to see physician- we will have blood test, EEg, EKG, and MRI done in the coming weeks. I did not see what happened, and my baby is is as happy and on th emove as usual no head shaking at home! But I want to be save. We have no history of seizures or other syndroms in the families, so we can rule out the genetics, and I hope that teachers over reacted....I will keep ypu posted

Hi, my daughter just started doing the same "no" head shaking thing today. She is almost 8 months old and it's starting to worry me a little. She never did this before. It seems pretty common due to the fact that there are so many of us with little ones around the same age doing the same act. If I find anything else out I will definitely let everyone know.

My son is 6 months old and he has the same problem. It has been going on for about 2 weeks now and it seems that it has intensified within the past couple of days. I don't understand, just because other people on this post have the same issue and call it "common" doesn't make things ok. What if this is a serious neurological problem of some sort?? You can't really take this sort of thing lightly when it's totally involuntary and not a mimik. I would like to hear from someone with medical expertise that has delt with this "issue" before. My pedia. advised me that he would grow out of it but did'nt know the cause. How can you not know the cause of something but yet provide a prognosis?? I might be over-reacting but I definitely want the best for my son as I am sure you all do too.

my almost 5 month old son just started shaking his head left and right when he's almost falling asleep. he just started doing it about a week ago. it scarred me to see him do it so fast and so much. once, he shook his head left and right more than ten times and so quickly. i don't know what's wrong.

My son is 11 mos old, and has been shaking his head at different times for a couple of months now. He used only shake his head when he was tired, but now he does it when he's looking around and happy. I understand parents being concerned for their child when they act in seemingly odd ways, however, children learn by doing and watching. Their motor skills are developing rapidly, and they are discovering themselves and the world around them everyday.

Last night my son started shaking his head while standing in front of me with the help of our ottoman. He looked at me, and I shook my head. He smiled real big, and shook his head again. So I shook my head again, and he started laughing.

Given the number of parents experiencing this phenomena and the number of pediatricians saying they will grow out of it, I really don't think we have anything to worry about. Especially, getting a concussion from it. Just continue observing with the knowledge that our kids are trying out everything they can think of.

My son started shaking his head when he was only 4 months, he is 4 now and hasn't stoped yet. Sometime he complaines that his is dizzy.
