(41 yr. old healthy female, newly remarried x 6 months & very "active", partial hysterectomy in 2000, family hist. of diabetes)

A back ache started rather suddenly about 3 weeks ago with no other immediate symptoms. I had blood in my panties (about 6 spots the size of a pencil eraser) about a week ago. I've been feeling tired and a little down for about 2 weeks.

Here's the weird part: about two weeks ago, I had something painful near the exit point for urine. (Sorry, don't remember the proper term.) Come to think of it, that whole region has seemed swollen for a while, but most especially the last month, with a little irritation.

The painful thing was in the crease beside the region of the opening, and it looked like a very large conical-shaped pimple, the size of a large pea. It burst while I was at a football game, and left a large amount of bloody discharge in my underwear. Needless to say, I missed the end of the game. Sad Since then, the back ache has increased in intensity.

In desperation, I took a 10-day course of Omnicef which I raided from the medicine cabinet. Stupid, I realize now. No change in the backache but my ears, nose and throat feel GREAT.

Right before my backache started, we fired up the big Jacuzzi outside for the first time in a long while. It's chlorinated, but the new hubby doesn't have a scientific method of caring for the water.

Do I need to see a general family practitioner, a urologist, a gynecologist or a psychiatrist? I joke around about this, but to be truthful, I'm very scared. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I suppose you could see any of these docs...although i don't think that a psychiatrist would not help much Smile

I would personally see a gyn and if s/he thinks there's a need, they will send you to an urologist or another expert.

Your symptoms could be hormonal, could be due to ovarian cysts, or maybe even kidney stones or something fourth.

Just make an appointment and start from there.

Best wishes
Heidi

Sorry for the delay in updating. For anyone who's interested (though I can't imagine why anyone would be except maybe a medical researcher studying something like this) I went to see a good family doctor who suspects I had a Bartholin cyst. I had another not long after seeing the doctor, but haven't had any more problems with the cysts since then. The pain in the back was unidentified, though I still suspect it was related to my kidneys. Dehydration, maybe? I don't drink much at all, except for coffee. I did have a trace of blood in my urine, but nothing else. Doctor was suspicious of my water. I live in a lake house that has only raw lake water through the plumbing, but we buy all our water for drinking and cooking. Still, he didn't think this was the cause of the back pain, which slowly disappeared.
