Bacterial infection after pregnancy and there is only 1 treatment for breastfeeding mothers

I gave birth to my son and 6weeks later I went to my gyno so he could check everything out. I later found I had bacterial infection, and since I'm breastfeeding I can only use the cream. The thing is the cream isn't covered by my drug card and the only thing I can go on will contaminate my milk supply. So my question is since I only have 3 months left of breastfeeding can I wait until then to take my treatment? or if I do not cure it ASAP is there serious affects??
