HI. I’m just wondering what is better to take - balloon ablasion or hysteroscopic endometrial resection??? I need to take one, that’s sure (I have heavy dysfunctional uterine bleeding), but I still don’t know which one. My doc told me that ballon ablasion is better choice in my case, but still, I’m very afraid and don’t know what to do. Is there anybody who can tell me what to do??? Which one would you take?? Please help!!

Oh dear… I really feel for you…It is very awful when you’re forced to make such decision…But, I know that one study was taken to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of a thermal uterine balloon system with hysteroscopic endometrial resection and I really hope it will help you decide. I know that they treated app 150 women – half of them performed thermal balloon ablations and the other half endometrial resections. Doctors concluded that the operative time was reduced significantly with the uterine balloon technique. Also, there were no intra-operative complications in either group and the overall success rate did not differ too. So, they concluded that uterine balloon ablation appears to be as efficacious as endometrial resection but the former one is much easier to perform especially by those with limited expertise in hysteroscopic surgery, and thus more safer. Hope this helps!

I had the balloon ablasion done due to extreme menstrual flow and ovarian cysts developing. This was the best procedure i have ever had. With my history of ovarian cysts rupturing because of a heavy menstrual flow, this procedure took care of all my problems. I had this procedure done 6 years ago, and i have not had any problems since. Some places will do it in your dr.s office, others will schedule it out patient surgery. I went in for the procedure, and went home the next day.

I had the balloon therapy 9 months ago, and have not had ANY of the problems I had prior to the procedure. I had it done as outpatient, went home the same day, and was back to work 2 days later (of course I work a desk job). I felt great. At the same time, I also had a D & C, as well as a tubal ligation.
