Hi, has anyone done Barnes basal temperature test to diagnose hypothyroidism. How is it performed? Do I need to use thermometer right after getting up or as still being in bed?

Hi, Barnes Basal Temperature Test is done at morning, on awakening, before coffee, going to the bathroom or any other physical activity. The thermometer is putted under your arm with the bulb in the armpit. It should measure temperature for 10 minutes, it is best to stay lying for that time. It is suggested to write down results right away so you don’t forget them. Normally, it should be between 97.8 and 98.2. If your results are lower than the range, you are probably hypothyroid, and if higher, then you might be hyperthyroid or you have an infection in your body. If you have some other symptoms of hypothyroidism like depression, low energy, fatigue, infections, chronic headaches, circulatory problems and other, do complete checking to react in time.

I did it this morning, after my chiropractor suggested it to me because I am always so tired. You have to do it as soon as you wake up - if you get up then it is no good. My temp was 36.4, which is under the 36.5 threshold, which means, according to the theory, that I am hypothyroid. Rolling Eyes
