Few days ago I have noticed a round, slightly tender bulge in one of the vaginal lips. That place is near the opening of the vagina. It seems that will slowly grow larger. I am afraid that could be a cyst that gets infected. I think one friend of mine had something like that. I went to the gynecologist, who told me that is Bartholin’s gland cyst, so I want to know more about it.

Bartholin’s glands are there to make a small amount of fluid that lubricates the vaginal lips. If skin grows over the opening of the gland, the fluid backs up. It causes a round swelling called a Bartholin’s gland cyst. The cyst can grow from the size of a penny to larger than an orange. Most of these cysts don’t get bigger than a golf ball, but they can be tender. Most of the time, Bartholin's gland cysts are not infected, but in some cases, they can be caused by an infection. Your doctor may want to check the fluid in the cyst to check what kind of cyst that is. The treatment can depend on one or more of factors, such as the size of the cyst, and how painful it is. It is extremely for kind of therapy if cyst is infected and your age. In some cases, a small cyst can just be watched over time to see if it will grow. In other cases, the doctor can perform a minor procedure to solve this problem.
