Hello. My father suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Besides usual consequences, he got benign fasciculation syndrome. He is not complaining but I think it hearts him. What can I do to help him? Can benign fasciculation syndrome be cured?

Hi! Sorry about your dad. I have a benign fasciculation syndrome too, but it is not caused by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In my case, it’s caused by a spinal injury. Sometimes I have pain, exercise intolerance and even muscle cramping. However, it doesn’t mean that your father has pain too. Benign fasciculation syndrome is twitching, that can occur in any voluntary muscle group. It can be occasional, or go on nearly continuously. Most often, it occures in arms, legs, eyelids and feet. I don’t think this syndrome can be cured, but I heard of some medicaments that help. They are used for essential tremor, but they help with this condition too. These are some anti-seizure drugs and beta-blockers.
