I am so concerned with the fact that my son is only 9 and he already has to use stimulants. He is on adderall 10mg but I think it is high dosage for him. I know that doc recommended, but he is so tinny boy. Does anyone know what best dosage of adderall in children is? I am worried mostly of the side effects.
I think that the usual philosophy with stimulants is to start with a low dosage and then work your way up as needed, either until it is working well or the child is having intolerable side effects. So, kids 3 to 5 years of age usually start with dose I of 2.5 milligrams daily, but at 6 years of age and older usual starting dose is 5 milligrams once or twice a day and in rare cases will a child need more than 40 milligrams per day.
