Hi, I was proposed to change therapy of my ankylosing spondylitis and switch from NSAID, methotrexat and cortisone to some biological medication. What are biological medications?

Hi, I take Enbrel, a biological medication to reduce signs and symptoms of my psoriatic arthritis. It helps me to prevent any further damage of my joints, and physical functions getting worse. Some people take it with methotrexate. Biological medication means that it acts on biological level and is of biological origin. This is a type of protein, not a drug called a tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Body immune system produces TNF, and Enbrel blocks the action of TNF, and inhibits symptoms of the disease. Unfortunately, major side effect is becoming more prone to infections, due to increased TNF level.
