I've started taking Levlite 28, and I'm concerned because I read that birth control pills can cause birth defects. Is this only if you're taking it while pregnant, or does taking the pill for a long period of time also cause birth defects, or heighten the chance of them, even if you get off the pill for over a year and try to conceive?

If you are pregnant and keep taking the pill for MONTHS AND MONTHS, the hormones could cause some defects.

The hormones are sex hormones, and it could cause problems with genital formation.
