Bleeding after having sex

Two days ago my girlfriend lost her virginity to me. Since then she has been bleeding and she just assumed that she had started her period. But that would mean that she would have actually started a couple weeks early, so I do not think that this is the case. Her best friend said that she might have a deep tear called "hemmoraging" and that she should see a doctor. My girlfriend says her thighs are just sore and that she isn't in much pain. What are the chances of her having a deep tear? And if she doesn't is it normal for her to bleed for a few weeks?
