Bleeding after period..Heavy,Brown and bright red

I had my period March 10-16, on time. I started spotting brown on the 21st..that went on and off for a few days..then on the 26th i started bleeding very heavily..using like 7 tampons a day(That is not normal for me)...sometimes the blood was brown, then dark dark red..and in the past 3 days it has been bright red(like if you cut your finger)..and there has been clots in it sometimes little and sometimes big. Also with this heavy heavy bleeding i have been experiencing cramps..which come and go..sometimes mild sometimes severe sometimes none. The crapms last anywhere from 2-30 minutes at a time. I've been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend for about 5 months now..i am not on the pill and havent been for 2 years..i just got rid of a bacterial infection at the end of l feb.!! I am just very confused..i have a dr. appointment in a few days..but i was just wondering if anyone has had anything go on like this or has any ideas as to what could be wrong...i appreciate any ideas!!
