Both partners get yeast infection after sex

We are a monogamous (I believe) couple around 50. Almost every time we have sex we BOTH get noticeable yeast infections about 2 days later. My penis gets red and itchy around the base of the glans. I believe it is yeast since it responds rapidly to clotrimazole or tinactin. She gets the normal itchy pussy plus a mild discharge. She (although not me) has tried cutting down on acidic and fungoidal foods, and eating acidopholus (?) based yoghurt every day. It seems to have little impact.

We are trying to work out who is/are the carrier. We are occasionally separated for a week or two. Masturbation (by me) does not bring it on. On the other hand she does not show symptons either.
It seems to be connected with my coming inside her, but this does little to explain why we both get the symptoms.

Is it possible we are infecting each other with different strains? Or is the one strain 'amplified' in some way by sex.

One last fact. She has a similar problem with a previous partner 20 years ago. I never had.

You could be passing the yeast back and forth to each other, the same strain.
Maybe your wife should see a gynecologist and have things figured out, then you would know for sure what it is. If she gets diagnosed with yeast, you should be treated as well. She needs to say this to the doc because often docs don't prescribe anything to men.

Yeast infections is acquired by using lubricant condoms, excessive douching, prolonged antibiotic treatment, using harsh detergents or vaginal deodorants, it is not considered to be an STD but could be passed back and forth between partners.

You need to refrain from having sex until both of you get treated.

Your wife is 50 and she should be having regular gynecologist exams anyway. This is great time to start!
