Health experts from the Harvard Medical School managed to link a common form of breast cancer in women to red meat consumption.
Breast cancer fueled by hormones is twice as likely to occur in women who consumed red meat frequently in their 20s, 30s and 40s. This type of cancer has been on the increase for the last couple of years.

This is the first study that examined the risk and a specific type of cancer.
The reason why this finding is important is that read meat consumption is one among few of the risks that could be reduced as we usually can’t influence on other factors that contribute to cancer development.
Read meat consumption has already been linked to colon cancer and this study definitely gives another reason why read meat should be consumed less frequently.

It has been found yet why exactly read meat poses the risks but it is thought that substances that are produced by cooking meat could be carcinogenic, that naturally occurring substances in meat could mimic the action of hormones, and that growth hormones farmers use to feed cows could fuel breast cancer in women who eat animal meat.

It has been found that the risk increased with the amount of red meat and women who consumed more than 1 1/2 servings (a serving is an equivalent to a hamburger)a day of beef, lamb or pork have double chances of developing hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer.
This study is evidence how diet early in life can affect a person's health risks later on. More research is on the way to confirm and explore deeper these findings.
