Scientists announced that they have discovered 4 new genes that are likely to be involved in the breast cancer development. This is important because they are hoping to find new ways to target this disease and speed up the process of finding an appropriate treatments for the ill.
Most breast cancers are caused by damage to genes.

High risk breast cancer genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 were pinpointed earlier and now thanks to the new DNA microarrays technology they have pinpointed four more on the 8th chromosome called FLJ14299, C8orf2, BRF2 and RAB11FIP. DNA microarrays are microchips capable of following the activity of hundreds of genes at the same time which made the search much faster.
After finding the genes the next step would be discovering the function of the genes and their role in breast cancer.
AT the moment breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.
