Results of many studies done on benefits of breastfeeding showed how breastfeeding may be important to the developing children especially those who were born prematurely and whose brains were about to fully develop in the neonatal intensive care units in hospitals instead in the mothers’ wombs.
Even the tinniest child born prematurely and fed with breast milk scored better results in the mental development later in life that those babies who were fed with only formula.
What seems to be beneficial for brain development is breast milk ingredients especially fatty acids. The studies also showed that babies who were fed longer that three months had less problems with bed-wetting than the babies who received the milk for less than three months or who haven’t received breast milk at all.
Although breast milk showed to be beneficial in brain development, it did not show any benefits on reduction of disorders like cerebral palsy, blindness, or hearing problems.
