Posted: 01/21/07 - 02:01 Post subject: Breathing problems associated with GERD |
|

Hi- I am posting to see if anyone has had a similar problem with GERD and has any solutions. I have had breathing problems for the past 3 years. First two I was being treated for Asthma and allerigies(Meds and Shots) but after never getting much better, went to a new allergist. Diagnosed me with GERD, (but still have allergies)in the 1st ten minutes! Go now to Gasterenterologist. Have had stomach scope, esophagus eaten away but no cancer Switched from Prilosec to to Zegerid and GERD is better. But still a way to go. I also take an enzyme to help with digestion. I still have breathing problems though. I have been training for a 15K since last June and still cannot run a full mile! I did take 6 weeks off for Bronchitis and do not run as often as I should, but would if I coild breathe. I love running, but depressing sometimes to not get any better at it. I go in to see the Gasterenterologist in February and would like to know what some of my options are. Next step up in Meds seems to come with alot of side effects from what I have read. And surgery does not look like a good option either. Thank you so much, any help is definitely appreciated. -sorry for the long post! |

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a disorder of the esophagus that causes frequent symptoms of heartburn. The esophagus is the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach. GERD occurs when a muscular ring called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is weakened, which permits irritating stomach contents to pass up into the esophagus, resulting in heartburn.
Dr Balch's nutritional team has created a formula designed to improve digestion and may be helpful for relieving symptoms.
