Hi. My brother is diabetic and now he has developed a cortical cataract. It has progressed enough to seriously damage his vision and he is considering surgery. I would like to here more about this procedure.

Hi. Cataract surgeries are very successful. Nine out of ten people regain very good vision after the procedure. Surgeon will remove his cloudy lens from the eye. This lens often needs to be replaced with a permanenet intraocular lens implant. A local anesthetics are being used. The recovery time is short. Some complications are possible, such as after-cataract, when vision becomes cloudy again, after the procedure. This after-cataract is most commonly treated with YAG laser.
