Brown Vaginal discharge and abnormal Smear results

I have been on the contraceptive pill for 7 years now, in the last two years I have been getting brown discharge when I am in the middle of my packet of pills. I have been to my family planning clinic and explained this to the doctor but they say its normal for some women on the pill to get discharge like this. I'm still not convinced.

When I get this discharge it makes my outer vagina itch really bad and this causes me to scratch it which makes it very inflammed. I know that it isn't an infection as I've been for tests.

All I want to know is , is this natural irritation because of the amount of discharge??? I sometimes have to wear tampons as its quite heavy. I can't wear panty pads as they don't soak it in and it causes more irritation.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated
