Hi, my child is addict. He has been taking heroin, but recently he was prescribed with Buprenex to deal with withdrawal symptoms. Is Buprenex addictive too?

Hi, I don’t believe that Buprenex can be abused, since it has low abuse potential. It is a painkiller, widely used and from general point of view safe. Now, it is also used as s an opiate reversal drug for heroin use. It depends on detox process speed in the organism, how long will it be needed to continue Buprenex to avoid heroin withdrawal symptoms. Methadone is widely used, but it is still an opioid. However, methadone develops withdrawal symptoms. Buprenex is there to stop them. It is specially useful for pregnant addicts as it prevents newborn drug dependency.
