| I get this pain too. There is a history of gout in my family though and I always thought it had something to do with that. I don't have gout (yet). It's horrible in my knees the day after heavy drinking. Red wine is the worst. I'm 30 years old. Does anyone else with this pain have a family history of gout or other kinds of arthritis? |

| I have this happen within 10 minutes of starting to drink. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I drank a quarter of a Mike's Hard Lemonade the other night and my knees starting aching so bad I could hardly sit still. Sometimes my ankles and feet do also, but mainly it's my knees. It's good to know other people have this too. |

| I am a heavy drinker on the weekends and i notice it takes 3-4 days for the pain to go away. I read that alcohol forms uric acid crystals which pile up painfully in the joints.. Mine are my shoulders and lower back for some reason. But when i dont drink for a few weeks its like completely gone?? |

| this string hardly needs another, me-too. Me too, i used to drink a fair amount with no aftereffect, now just a few ships and it seems within minutes i feel joint pain. Although i don't doubt the de-hydration can play a role, i drink plenty of water and usually have extra when i drink alcohol. Has some similarity with gout, but i don't have any other symptoms. considered asking my doctor about it once, but i figured i don't need to pay $80 to be told, well, don't drink then" |

| I too have found some joint pain after consumption. I found that it has happend to me only after drinkin hard liquor,, although that usually my first choice of beverage. I looked up this site wondering cause after partying my butt off at the lake,, I mean embarrassing hard partying 3 days later my right foot is really killin me,, I can hardly even walk,, thru the day it eases up a little, but when I wake up the next day,, omg ouch!! Lookin up other sites I myself am convinced that I am both dehydrating myself to the max, and also than causing huge amounts of uric acid in the system which is causing this. Now that I know this,, I am going to have to def slow down. |

| I came to this site because I was searching for clues. After I drink RED WINE , I suffer significant increased pain in my joints. I already have several bursas and now other naggling problems. Red wine is supposed to have antioxidants etc etc, however, it makes my pain level skyrocket. |

|

| I have read all the postings as I was looking for answers about my joint pains. It mostly is in my knees. Im 43 now and been drinking Special Brew (9%) since I was 15 years old. During the past year I started getting joint pains but did not think it related to the alcohol. Recently I tried to give up drinking and then found that the pain goes away. But when I start back drinking again it comes back in a different place in my knees. It scared me at first as I thought I had cancer or something, but reading this site has comforted me a bit as it seems there are a lot of people out there with the same problem. |

Beer is worst; scotch and brandy are OK.
Beer gave me excruciating knee joint pain that I couldn't even walk up/down the stairs. So I stopped drinking beer 15-20 years ago . That solved the knee joint pain problem! But I still enjoy red/white wine and I usually wake up with finger joint pain. |

Me, too.
Looks like GOUT is likely reason. After drinking, try drinking lemon water to break up uric acid build-up in joints and reduce pain. Also, pineapple and licorice supposedly help. And of course forcing fluids (water) is a good idea. Sometimes alternating heat and ice on joint every 10 minutes helps, too. |
