It depends on what kind of drugs your father is using. If he has been using diuretics, he is prone to either developing secondary gout (induced gout with a medication or alike) or to worsening the symptoms if he had already had gout.
Every doctor should know that, so if your father had gout before or was predisposed to gout, his doctor should never have prescribed diuretics (if that is what he’s using).
There are many other drugs that a person could use for treating high blood pressure. Not all would work but if your father has gout, he shouldn’t be taking diuretics.
