As I supposed, high cholesterol is the best known of all the many threats to a healthy heart. I know only that is waxy, fat-like substance. My doctor told it is commonly that excess amounts of cholesterol build up along the walls of the arteries. In this case, person could face a dramatically higher risk of a complete blockage, leading to a heart attack or stroke. Because of all this, I wish to hear more about cholesterol, if there is something, you think I should know.

At normal levels in human body, cholesterol is not a bad thing as many of people think. On the contrary, cholesterol is an essential raw material used by the body to build cell walls and produce hormones. These hormones build up of cholesterol are those such as estrogen and testosterone. You should know that body produces its own supply of cholesterol in the liver. Beside this, it is found naturally in all animal products, such as meats, eggs, milk, and cheese. It poses a problem only when the body is unable to use or eliminate excessive supplies of cholesterol in organism. Cholesterol is classified as a lipid and is one variety of fatty substances in the body. It is carried through the bloodstream attached to proteins, and both are forming complexes called lipoproteins. There are two major types of lipoproteins, known as the low-density lipoproteins, or LDL, which is commonly known as bad cholesterol. Beside this one, we have also the high-density lipoproteins, or HDL, usually dubbed good cholesterol.
