PostPosted: 08/15/06 - 11:10    Post subject: How do you know the C. Dif is gone? Vote now! Reply with quote

Hi all. I am currently on Vancomycin for a C. Dif infection and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis/Crohn's Disease last month. I know that the Vanco and D. Dif cause diarrhea, and when I went this morning, I was not diarrhea at all. Does this mean the C. Dif is gone? Please advise! I will call my doctor this morning, but he is hard to get a hold of and I'm anxious for an answer! Thank you for your help!

I got c-diff when I was in the hospital for a heart attack. I was in the hospital for over 3 weeks. I was very sick, dehydrated, on IV's. I thought the c-diff stopped a couple of weeks after I was released from the hospital. I have been out of the hospital a month now and I think the c-diff has returned. I just returned to work last week after being off for about 5 weeks. I hope and pray this will end soon and I won't have to go back to the doctor or hospital. I always wash my hands, disinfect anything I use, etc. This is infection is hell! Sad

My doctors believe I got c-dif from a visit to the hospital. I was sick, then got sicker. I was also pregnant. They finally figured out I had c-dif but it was a little too late. It had gotten in my blood stream, from being untreated, and almost killed me. I only lived through it because I am only 24 and otherwise healthy. I was on life support for a total of 5 weeks, spent 69 days in the hospital. Beat the infection only too get it again a week before going home. I had to have an emergency c-section at 31 weeks before the infection got to the baby. I"ve been home 5 weeks and I still have the infection. I wouldn't wish this infection on my worst enemy. It is very contagious so be careful around people who have it, it CAN be deadly...I almost died twice from it.

My Father went into hospital with a fractured hip eight weeks ago, since then further complications have arisen and he has been diagnosed with the c-diff virus twice. The hospital had given my mother his clothing to wash without telling her that the virus was present. when she took the clothes home she found his faeces on them. why is this happening, surely his clothes should be incinerated while the virus is present. There doesn't seem to be too much vigilance present regarding hygienic disposal and constant reinfection and i am appalled, as are all my family, at the state of my father who was coherent and semi mobile when he was first admitted to hospital and has now been reduced to a shadow of his former self.

There is a non-antibiotic drug that is in Phase III trials. It goes by the name of Tolevamer and is manufactured by Genzyme Corporation HQ'd out of Cambridge, MA. www.genzyme.com

The info on G's website states that they are currently fast tracked with the FDA and expecting approval in 2007. Not sure when/if they will actually get it early/late '07. My experience with the FDA's approval process is that they don't tend to ACTUALLY make their own deadlines.

Just something to hope for. Feel better.

I have been diagnosed with C diff after a 20 day course of antibiotics following multiple other courses of AB for a resistant sinus infection. I am now on Flagyl which has seemed to help and am eating activa yougart which has also helped, I guess. my diareha has lessened, severe abdominal pain is gone after 5 days but I fear that the worst is yet to come. I can feel my intestines just below my rib cage, they feel ike little nodules and are a little tender. I have never felt this on myself before. My Dr says its just inflamation but I fear she may be overlooking something as they feel more pronounced now then a couple of days ago and I am worried because I have not lost a pound in the week and a half that I have been Very sick. I am awaiting the stool culture results but my blood work all came back normal.

any thoughts?
