My 16 years daughter is about to have ANA test for we just want to make sure weather she has lupus for I have it. She was always healthy and was born without having neonatal lupus and now I want to know can drugs affect ANA. She had some virus infection about a month ago and was taking some drugs but last week she started feeling fatigue and has some rash on her chest. It is me ho started to worry if this could be early signs of lupus and want her to do ANA so would like to know if any drugs can affect ANA.

I think you should be patient just wait for a little more time. She had that virus infection and it’s more likely that the fatigue is virus infection consequence and this rash she has got on her chest may be a reaction on the drugs. And this ANA test may be positive even in a healthy people especially in your daughter for her mother has lupus. But still positive ANA test doesn’t mean that she has lupus. And also these drugs she has been taking may affect ANA. Anyway that rash she has currently might indicate lupus but it still doesn’t have to mean so. Anyway if she do ANA test and if the test show normal values that is in fact negative test, if the values are low it still doesn’t have to mean that she has lupus for such low ANA levels may be present in healthy people for no specific reason. And if ANA level is abnormal than it is a sign that her immune system is producing the antibodies that attacks body’s own tissues instead of attacking toxins. But keep in mind that taking some drugs may significantly affect ANA.
