Can Azathioprine be administered directly?

My mother has rheumatoid arthritis. Doctor prescribed to her drug called Azathioprine. He said that it’s an antimetabolite and it works by decreasing the effects of certain cells in the body's immune system. Can somebody tell me, please, how to use this medication correctly? Can Azathioprine be administered directly? Thanks!

I need to tell you that this medication has so many side effects. Your mother should be careful. I’m taking Azathioprine 50mg tablets for rheumatoid arthritis. She needs to take it exactly as it was prescribed for her. I take azathioprine with a full glass of water after meal to avoid stomach upset.

Can Azathioprine be administered directly?
