Hello! I have a problem with cold sores (Herpes Labialis) for five years. I usually take valtrex as soon as I feel burning and itching on my lips (usually at the same spot). But last time it didn’t help at all. Now, I feel the first symptoms and I think I should maybe increase the dosage of Valtrex on my own. What should I do?
Hi! You haven’t written how do you take Valtrex, but since you are taking it so long I assume that you are taking it properly. Then you should already know that the normal dosage is 2 grams taken twice a day and it should be taken only for one day. For patients with renal impairment this dosage is much lower. I don’t think you should increase your dosage on your own. This could be a risk to your health and I think that the best is to consult your doctor.
