Can I lose weight if I'm a vegetarian?

I have a friend who is a vegetarian for as long as I can remember. She is of good health and never had any trouble with weight unlike me, but up to now I didn’t even think of changing my diet to exclude meat. Can I lose weight if I’m a vegetarian?

It is true that vegetarian food is less caloric but you should also know that vegetarians eat more food than average people! The only trick is that the balanced vegetarian diet has 500 calories less on an average. The idea is that by eating wrong food one gets problems with weight, so make a choice based on some other issues.
