Can I use magnesium hydroxide as a laxative if you have stomach pain?

I believe that stomach pain that I suffer occasionally is caused by lack of bowel movement. Sometimes I cant have BM for 3 days. Can I use magnesium hydroxide to relieve this pain? If you have stomach pain caused by lack of BM, what else to use if not magnesium hydroxide? Thanks.

Magnesium hydroxide, milk of magnesia acts to produce bowel movement within 6-7 hours after taking the dose. There is precaution that this med should not be used in treatment of stomach pain with unknown cause, so I dont know if it really would be that safe to take it without consultation to health professional.
