Can Polio affect the heart?

My little son has just received a polio vaccine. Then I tried to inform myself about Polio. I read something about it in some books but I need more information. I know that sometimes Polio can lead to permanent muscle paralysis or disability but tell me can Polio affect the heart?

Yes, unfortunately, it can. Besides paralysis polio may causes complications that involve the lungs, kidneys and heart. It can cause myocarditis. That means that the thick muscular layer of your heart becomes inflamed. That leads to chest pain, an abnormal heartbeat or congestive heart failure. Blood clots also may form in the heart and it can cause a stroke or heart attack.
